What is an attic fan?
An attic fan is a fan that is mounted on your roof or inside your attic on the gable vents that pulls super hot air out of your attic and cooler outside air in. This helps cool your attic space and keeps that super hot air from entering your living space. Back to Top |

Why should I install an attic fan?
An attic fan should be installed to remove the super hot air that accumulates in your attic. This hot air will warm your entire house if not removed. This causes your air conditioning system to work harder to keep your home cool. An attic fan will also help make your roof shingles and roof supports last longer.

Will my roof leak after an attic fan is installed?
No, an attic fan has a metal flashing that slides up under the shingles for the first 2/3 of the fan, the bottom of the fan flashing lays over the shingles so water will just run right off the attic fan.

What will the attic fan look like on my roof?
An attic fan looks like a flat mushroom. The dome is about 2 feet wide and sticks up off the roof less than 1 foot. The attic fan is mounted on the backside of your roof normally about 2 feet from the top. The attic fans we use are black in color as shown in the picture above.

I do not want anything showing on my roof can I still have an attic fan?
Yes you can still have an attic fan as long as you have gable vents on your house. A gable attic fan is mounted on the inside of your attic. A gable mount attic fan is also used if your roof is slate, wood or metal.

How much power will an attic fan use?
An attic fan will use about the same amount of power as 3 100 watt light bulbs. This is much less than what it will take your air conditioning system to cool the effects of the hot attic air.

What turns on an attic fan?
An attic fan is turned on and off with an adjustable thermostat. The thermostat is set at 95 degrees when we install your fan. The thermostat can be set as low as 60 degrees and as high as 120 degrees. But it is best to not set it to low as it will cause the attic fan to run for a much longer time than really needed. It is best to not change the setting of the thermostat.

What is a whole house fan?
A whole house fan is a fan that is mounted in your attic with a vent into your living space that draws cool air in through your windows and blows your hot house air into your attic space. A whole house fan works by creating a breeze as it draws the outside air into your living space.
